In April 2009 Ms. McKinney was asked
to present “In the Studio with Eleanor McKinney:
Three Decades of Lessons Learned in Sustainability”.
The lecture covered environmental, cultural, and professional
sustainability. She also installed a temporary public art
piece entitled “WHAT IS LANDscape?”
The first week of June 2009, Eleanor
presented a paper titled “Green Roofs in Texas:
Four Case Studies”. The paper reviewed various
soil depths, installation, maintenance, and monitoring practices
of green roofs in Austin and Houston. Previously, Austin City
Hall was awarded the Award of Excellence by the GRHC.
Ms. McKinney was a panel member on “The
Do’s and Don’ts of Public Space Design”.
Her presentation on “Plazas and Courtyards” was
based on the Downtown Design Guidelines Plazas and Open Space
section. Ms. McKinney was the original author of this work
which was published in 2000.
