Ms. McKinney has long been committed
to community service as an integral part of her work. Early
service included membership on the Solid Waste Task Force
from 1983-85; SW Regional Director of the American Community
Gardening Association from 1987-88; membership in Austin Women
in Architecture from 1989-1996; and membership in the Sustainable
Building Coalition from 1993-97. Active participation in these
organizations provided the foundation for a broad base of
support and connections within the city.
Mid-career service included appointment
to the City of Austin Parks and Rec Board from 1992-94. In
1993 she became chair of the Land and Facilities Committee.
Another appointment was to the Tower
Garden Advisory Committee at the University of Texas at Austin
from 1999-2000. The purpose of the committee was to look at
turning the “turtle ponds” into a memorial for
the victims of the Whitman tragedy. |
